Arabic version: وزير سوداني يدعو إلى حوار سوداني يقود السلام

According to Allafrica, Sudan’s Minister of Culture, Information, Antiquities and Tourism Khalid Al-Eisir said the country is pursuing what he called “last-chance diplomacy” over the war and peace efforts, while maintaining that Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue is the route to lasting peace.

In an interview with Egyptian English-language newspaper Ahram Online, Al-Eisir said the government’s restraint was not a sign of weakness. He described it as a deliberate policy intended to exhaust political, legal and diplomatic pressure tools. He said dialogue could open prospects for peace and end the war rather than serve as an alternative to ending it.

Al-Eisir said the government does not impose conditions or a predetermined agenda for dialogue, and said Transitional Sovereignty Council President and Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan is working to create an appropriate environment. He said the government had closed the chapter on external initiatives and viewed Egypt as an important key to dialogue’s success.

On the war, he said it could end “today, not tomorrow” if the Rapid Support Forces militia laid down its weapons and accepted conditions set by the Armed Forces commander-in-chief. He also said Sudan places Red Sea security and regional stability at the forefront of its considerations.

Al-Eisir said Sudan and Egypt share a position against unilateral Ethiopian measures concerning the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, adding that Sudan’s water security is part of its national security. He described Egypt as “the warm embrace of the Sudanese” and said Sudan relies on its supportive position toward Sudanese national causes.
