Arabic version: السودان يكرر اتهاماته لإثيوبيا بشأن ضربات الطائرات المسيّرة
According to Allafrica, Sudan has again accused neighbouring Ethiopia of involvement in drone attacks on civilian infrastructure, fuel depots and power stations. Sudanese officials alleged that drones used in recent strikes were launched from Ethiopian territory, including Bahir Dar Airport.
Sudanese government and intelligence officials presented what they described as flight data, satellite imagery and fragments of intercepted drones at a joint press conference in Khartoum on Wednesday, Sudan Tribune reported. The flight data and the alleged origin of the drones could not be independently verified. Ethiopian authorities and the United Arab Emirates could not immediately be reached for comment.
The allegations followed strikes on Sudanese infrastructure. On Tuesday, a drone attack disabled the Markhiyat power station northwest of Omdurman, disrupting electricity supplies across the capital area. Further strikes on Wednesday targeted a power station and fuel storage facilities in El Manaqil, Gezira State, as well as fuel storage sites and a pipeline linked to Bashayer Port in Red Sea State.
Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Muawiya Osman Khalid accused Ethiopia and the UAE of enabling the attacks and called for an international response, while asserting Sudan’s right to defend its territory. Defence Minister Hassan Daoud Kabroun separately alleged that more than 20 countries supported the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces with funding, drones, logistical assistance and foreign fighters, but did not identify them beyond repeating claims against Ethiopia and the UAE or provide evidence. The UAE has denied supporting the RSF.
Sudan’s army and the RSF have been fighting since April 2023, after tensions over plans to integrate the paramilitary force into the regular military escalated into war. Kabroun also called for renewed regional security cooperation, including joint border protection and measures to strengthen maritime security along Sudan’s Red Sea coastline.
