The Supernova Comic Con & Gaming convention in Melbourne will proceed for its second day following a tragic incident where a pedestrian was killed. A man in his 20s has died outside Melbourne Showgrounds after being struck by a car that veered across a road and down a footpath, leaving another individual with life-threatening injuries. According to ABC News, the collision occurred on Langs Road in Ascot Vale as three men were walking together after leaving the event about 5pm.

The driver of the vehicle, a 33-year-old from Werribee, was arrested by an off-duty police officer and taken to hospital under police guard. Authorities are investigating the potential roles of drugs, alcohol, and speed in the incident. The vehicle involved is reported to be a rental car, a grey Toyota Echo.

In response to the tragedy, Supernova Comic Con organizers expressed their deep sorrow in a statement shared on social media. They plan to hold a minute’s silence at midday today to honor the victims and support their families. The organizers emphasized their commitment to ensuring a safe environment for attendees during the ongoing event.

The police are actively investigating the incident and are encouraging anyone with information or relevant footage to reach out to Crime Stoppers. This incident has cast a shadow over the convention, prompting attendees and organizers to reflect on the seriousness of the situation while the event continues.
