According to Al Jazeera, Ahmad Hassoun, a top religious official under Bashar al-Assad’s former regime in Syria, has been sentenced to life in prison.

Hassoun was known as the “barrel bomb mufti”, Al Jazeera reported.

He was found guilty of committing war crimes during Syria’s nearly 14-year civil war.

The ruling concerns a prominent religious figure from the former Assad regime.
