According to Al Jazeera, the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces will dissolve as an independent military force under an agreement with Damascus.

SDF chief Mazloum Abdi announced the dissolution of the force, Al Jazeera reported on August 25, 2026.

The Syrian Democratic Forces had previously been the main partner of the United States in Syria during its battle against ISIL.
