According to BBC News, Dominik Szoboszlai converted a 99th-minute penalty as Liverpool drew 2-2 with Newcastle United at St James’ Park, denying new Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle victory in his first Premier League match in charge.

Newcastle went ahead through Anthony Elanga, who finished into the bottom corner after William Osula led a breakaway and released him with a weighted pass. Liverpool levelled through Cody Gakpo, whose strike was described as a brilliant hit, with Ryan Gravenberch credited with the assist.

Joe Willock made an immediate contribution after replacing Osula in the 55th minute. Yoane Wissa carried the ball to set up Willock, who scored Newcastle’s second goal. Liverpool substitute Victor Munoz later won the decisive penalty following a coming together with Lewis Hall.

BBC Sport’s ratings gave Wissa an eight, the highest mark among the starting players, while Gakpo received an eight for Liverpool. Szoboszlai was rated seven after taking the injury-time spot-kick brilliantly. Newcastle goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek also earned a seven after making saves from Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak on his Premier League debut.

In BBC Sport user ratings, Wissa was named player of the match with an average score of 7.65. Elanga followed on 7.41, while Hall received 7.07 and Willock 7.05. Gakpo was Liverpool’s highest-rated player in the user voting, with 6.13.
