Are you looking for a fulfilling experience helping others? Or, would you like to gain experience to take the next step in your career?
Learn how to get started with volunteering and work experience at City of Canterbury Bankstown’s inaugural Volunteer and Work Experience Expo on Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 May.
Meet local organisations, hear from other volunteers, learn how to prepare your resume and even have a professional photo taken for your LinkedIn profile.
Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Bilal El-Hayek said the expo aims to connect locals with organisations looking for volunteers and work experience candidates and arm them with tips to succeed.
“As a volunteer, I know how special it can be to give up your time for the good of others,” Mayor El-Hayek said.
“Volunteering is a great opportunity for young people to get involved in the community and for adults to do something fulfilling – it’s never too early or too late to start volunteering.
“And gaining work experience is the perfect place to start if you’re looking to take the first step in your career or maybe pivot to a different career path.
“This expo is a fantastic opportunity to network and get information from local experts on how and where to start.”
The expo will feature guest speakers sharing their experiences of volunteering for the NSW Police and Bankstown Canterbury Community Transport.
The Centre for Volunteering and Canterbury City Community Centre will offer up advice on volunteering for those new to Australia.
Participants will also have the opportunity to take part in free workshops on how to use LinkedIn and how to prepare a resume.
The expo will be held on Tuesday 14 May at Lakemba Senior Citizens Centre from 10am-1pm and Wednesday 15 May at Bryan Brown Theatre from 2-5pm.
Registrations are essential and light refreshments will be provided. For more information and to register, visit cb.city/VolunteerExpo or contact 9707 9464.
