A teacher accused of hiding a camera inside toilets at Kingswood Primary School in Dingley has been refused bail. Timothy Blamires, 33, was arrested at the school on Tuesday by police and charged with child abuse offences.

According to ABC News, Magistrate Timothy Gattuso stated that releasing Mr. Blamires on bail posed an “unacceptable risk” of him interfering with potential witnesses or destroying evidence. The magistrate described the prosecution’s case as “strong” and highlighted the seriousness of the alleged offenses.

During the court proceedings, it was revealed that after the camera was found by a cleaner, it was relocated to the principal’s office. Mr. Blamires allegedly entered the office, removed the camera, and hid it before returning to his teaching duties. Police have since seized items from his residence but encountered difficulties accessing the material due to incorrect passwords provided by Mr. Blamires.

The courtroom was filled with approximately 50 members of the school community, including parents who expressed their distress over the situation. Many parents were concerned about the potential involvement of their children in the alleged offenses. Following the magistrate’s decision, some parents were visibly emotional, reflecting on the impact of the allegations on their sense of safety for their children.

Kingswood Primary School is scheduled to hold a meeting with parents to address concerns and provide updates. The case has been adjourned until May 15, as the investigation continues.
