According to BBC News, Team GB won three medals on the opening day of the European Aquatics Championships in Paris, including gold for both its men’s and women’s 4x200m freestyle relay teams.

James Guy, Duncan Scott, Matt Richards and Belfast’s Jack McMillan won the men’s relay in seven minutes 1.52 seconds. France finished second and Germany took third.

Freya Anderson, Leah Schlosshan, Abbie Wood and Freya Colbert claimed the women’s title in 7:45.93. Hungary were second in 7:49.09, while Neutral Athletes B won bronze in 7:49.13.

Max Litchfield added bronze in the men’s 400m individual medley, finishing in 4:11.58. Ilya Borodin won gold with a championship record of 4:08.17, ahead of Italy’s Alberto Razzetti in 4:10.40.

Elsewhere, Jack Kelly twice broke the Irish 100m breaststroke record to reach Tuesday’s final. He recorded 59.27 in the heats before improving to 58.90 in his semi-final. Great Britain’s Adam Ramsay-Peaty won the other semi-final in 58.94, with Filip Nowacki second in 59.03, a 100m record for a Jersey swimmer.
