According to Allafrica, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune held phone talks on Monday with Niger’s President, General Abdourahamane Tiani, to review the situation in Niger. The call was reported in a statement from Algeria’s Presidency of the Republic.
The Algerian presidency said Tebboune thanked and praised Tiani for his efforts to thwart what it described as an attempt to destabilize Niger.
Tiani told Tebboune that the situation was fully under control, according to the statement. He also thanked Algeria for its solidarity with Niger and its people.
Tebboune reiterated that Algeria would stand by Niger, its people and its institutions in all fields and under all circumstances, the presidency said.
The two presidents also discussed progress on joint projects agreed during Tiani’s recent visit to Algeria. The statement described the projects as a strong driver of development in Niger.
