According to Allafrica, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has ordered the immediate launch of railway projects covering the Laghouat-El Menia-In Salah-Tamanrasset sections, describing them as an “absolute priority” for the public works sector.

Tebboune issued the instruction while chairing a Council of Ministers meeting on Sunday, according to a Council statement. The order concerns the broader Laghouat-Ghardaia-El Menia-In Salah-Tamanrasset line and the construction of the Moulay Lahcene-Tamanrasset section station.

The president called for a “comprehensive acceleration” of construction processes and said the fully completed project should be delivered by the end of 2028. He said completion would allow Algerians to travel by train from the North to the deep South, reaching Tamanrasset.

The African Development Bank has approved financing for the railway section stretching from El Menia to Tamanrasset. Tebboune tasked the Minister of Public Works with conveying his thanks and encouragement to workers, technicians and engineers in the sector.

He described their current performance as “heroic by all standards” and said they were close to achieving a long-standing aspiration for Algerians since independence.
