A teen has been accused of abducting a 17-year-old girl from near a Melbourne school with the intention of marrying her without her consent. The allegations came to light during a court appearance for Ayom Deng, 18, who was arrested in Melbourne’s west at about 10am on Wednesday.

According to ABC News, the incident occurred on Friday when the girl was approached by a male as she entered the school at about 8:30am. It is alleged that Deng forcibly placed her into a vehicle and drove away. At the time of his arrest, Deng was already on bail.

Deng appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, facing multiple charges including abduction, kidnapping, false imprisonment, and committing an indictable offence while on bail. He did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody, with a committal mention scheduled for September 23.

Court documents indicate that Deng is accused of abducting the girl “with intent on marrying … without her consent”. Additionally, he faces charges for unlawfully imprisoning her and driving on a highway without a driver’s licence or permit. A 15-year-old boy has also been charged in connection with the case and will face a children’s court at a later date.
