According to ABC News, a 13-year-old boy has died after a crash involving a suspected stolen SUV at Gateshead in Lake Macquarie, in the NSW Hunter region.

Emergency services responded to reports of the crash at about 3am. Police found that the SUV had left the road and crashed into a nearby field.

First responders attempted to revive the boy, but he died at the scene. A 14-year-old boy who was inside the vehicle suffered leg injuries and was arrested at the scene.

Police said two other occupants fled before officers arrived. An 18-year-old man and another 14-year-old boy were later arrested and are in John Hunter Hospital under police guard.

Following inquiries, police said the vehicle had been stolen from the Swansea area overnight. A crime scene has been established, the crash is under investigation, and police have appealed for witnesses to come forward. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
