According to ABC News, two teenagers have been charged with murder over the alleged mistaken identity shooting death of university student Marco Tapia in Sydney’s south-west.

Mr Tapia, 23, was shot dead at a home in Glen Alpine on September 1. Detectives later confirmed that the wrong house had been targeted. Police were told the offenders left the property shortly before officers arrived.

Search warrants were executed at two properties in Fairfield at 10am on Wednesday during the investigation. Police arrested two boys, aged 14 and 16, who were taken to Cabramatta Police Station.

Both boys were charged with murder, participating in a criminal group to contribute criminal activity, possessing an unauthorised prohibited firearm, and two counts of driving a conveyance taken without the owner’s consent. The 14-year-old also faces an additional charge of damaging property by fire or explosion.

Detectives will allege the teenagers staged vehicles and supplied a weapon for the gunman. They were refused bail and were due to appear before a children’s court on Thursday. Investigations into the shooting are continuing.
