Tehran and other Iranian cities experienced intense air attacks on March 5, 2026, marking the seventh day of the US-Israeli war on Iran. Reports indicate that the bombardment has intensified, with US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth warning of a dramatic surge in attacks. According to Al Jazeera, Israel’s military announced the beginning of a new wave of strikes on Tehran, while US B-2 bombers targeted deeply buried ballistic missile launchers.

Explosions rocked various locations in Tehran, including residential areas and near Tehran University, with reports of significant damage. An Iranian military academy was also struck during the intense overnight bombardment. Al Jazeera correspondent Tohid Asadi noted that the strikes were more severe than in previous days, with shockwaves felt at their bureau and a visible column of smoke rising from the attacks.

In addition to Tehran, explosions were reported in Kermanshah, Shiraz, and Isfahan, areas known for missile bases. The Israeli military claimed that most of Iran’s air defenses and missile launchers had been destroyed. The human cost of the conflict has been severe, with Iranian state media reporting at least 1,230 fatalities since the onset of the attacks, including 181 children. Among the casualties were at least 175 children in a girls’ school in Minab, struck on the first day of the conflict. Following scrutiny over the incident, Hegseth acknowledged that the US military is investigating, with reports suggesting that US forces may have been responsible for the school attack, which could constitute a war crime if confirmed.
