According to ABC News, messages between Beau Lamarre-Condon and colleague Nicole Harvell were tendered as evidence in his murder trial, detailing his concerns about Jesse Baird and their on-again-off-again connection. Lamarre-Condon has pleaded not guilty to two murder charges over the alleged shooting deaths of Baird and Baird’s new boyfriend, Luke Davies, in February 2024.

The Crown has said Lamarre-Condon developed an “obsessive and jealous infatuation” with Baird after a somewhat casual romance ended. His lawyers have indicated a self-defence argument, telling jurors that separate struggles inside Baird’s Paddington home in Sydney resulted in two deaths. They said it was not disputed that Lamarre-Condon looked through Baird’s phone and deleted contacts and messages.

In April 2023, Lamarre-Condon sent Harvell a photograph of an Instagram exchange in which Baird said the pair saw each other “from time to time” but were not seeing each other or in a relationship. Lamarre-Condon had taken the image after going through Baird’s phone while staying over. Harvell told the court he knew Baird’s passcode and appeared paranoid about Baird’s interest in him.

Messages also described Lamarre-Condon checking Baird’s Instagram followers, Spotify activity and stories. Court evidence referred to two apparent break-ups, in April and November 2023. In November, Harvell said Lamarre-Condon used an Instagram close-friends post showing flowers in an effort to discourage other men. After Baird was sent a screenshot, Lamarre-Condon allegedly arranged for a florist to replicate the bouquet and asked his mother, Coleen Lamarre, to pose with it and write a note.

On November 19, Lamarre-Condon sent Harvell photographs of Baird in the Blue Mountains that had been obtained through a website used to anonymously view Instagram stories. He later said he needed to let the situation go. The Crown alleges Lamarre-Condon murdered Baird and Davies on February 19, 2024, then took part in a calculated cover-up over several days. It says he handed himself in to a police station the following day.
