Arabic version: «ذا كاسل» يتجه إلى خشبة المسرح في ملبورن

According to ABC News, classic Australian film The Castle will be adapted for the stage 30 years after it first came out. The production will premiere at Melbourne’s Her Majesty’s Theatre in March 2027.

The stage show will follow the Kerrigan family and their battle to save their home from an airport expansion. The original film produced often-quoted lines including “How’s the serenity?”, “It’s the vibe” and “Tell him he’s dreaming”.

Rob Sitch, Tom Gleisner, Santo Cilauro and Jane Kennedy of Working Dog, who wrote the original film, have penned the adaptation. In a statement, they said they had wanted to turn the story into a live stage show for decades.

“We wrote this new, fully updated show in the same way that we wrote the film screenplay all those years ago — the four of us in a room trying to make each other laugh,” the writers said. They said the production would be a celebration of the Kerrigan family featuring a quarter of a century’s worth of updates.

Producer Michael Cassel said the film captured specificities of Australian life while feeling universally true through family love, change, and “the warmth and humour and dignity of ordinary people standing up for what matters”. Paige Rattray will direct the production, while Jonathon Oxlade will handle set and costume design.
