According to Al Jazeera, The Elders concluded after visiting the West Bank that Israel aims to make Palestine disappear “physically, economically, culturally and politically”. The assessment was discussed by Mary Robinson, a former president of the Republic of Ireland and a leading member of the group, in an interview with host Steve Clemons.

Robinson said the delegation was “shocked” by how much the situation had deteriorated since 2023. She described what she said were efforts to erase Palestine across several dimensions, including physical, economic, cultural and political life.

“It starts with hate speech, clear talk about Jewish supremacy and annexation of the West Bank,” Robinson said. She also said the Israeli government gives “complete impunity” to settlers and soldiers whom she accused of taking land and disrupting Palestinians’ lives across the territory.

The interview appeared in Al Jazeera’s 25-minute programme, The Bottom Line, published on August 9, 2026. The report focused on The Elders’ findings following their West Bank visit and Robinson’s account of the delegation’s concerns.
