The United Nations is truly the theatre of the absurd

Unreported by mainstream media to no one’s surprise, has been the decades long conflict between Iran and Pakistan along their geographical border region. Terrorist groups funded by both countries inflicting continuous cross border chaos has resulted in numerous deaths of terrorists and of innocent civilians caught up in the conflict. No reporting, no protests, no United Nations resolutions, no EU, UK nor US parliamentary debates and naturally as stated above, absolute silence and inertia from global media. Very, very occasionally Al Jazeera (itself owned by the Government of Qatar through the Qatari Investment Corporation and responsible for funding numerous Islamist terrorist groups on three continents) send one of their junior reporters to a ‘safe zone’ on the border regions to write an opinion piece. The last such articles were January 17th and 18th 2024 giving vague historical (and somewhat inaccurate) background and a list of fatal incidents dating back to 2017. Other than that, zippo, zero, niche, nothing from AJ or any other mainstream media broadcaster.

The conflict is as much caused by religious extremism on both sides, Shia Iran opposing Sunni Pakistan as it is about territorial sovereignty and greed for land expansion specifically relating to the Balochistan region. Attracting more recent attention however is Pakistan’s concern of Iran acquiring nuclear capability to which perversely they are mutually aligned with Israel militarily and politically in their approach.  Pakistan has no diplomatic relations with Israel which were being muted when Imran Khan was the Pakistani Prime Minister but have since been pushed sideways. I understand that back door discussions however are continuing through a third party as the desire of both countries is to sabotage Iran’s efforts to achieve her nuclear objectives. This would not have been the first time that Pakistan had assisted Israel thwarting a common enemy in that enemy’s desire for military expansionism and power.

In 1970 under the command of a rather brilliant army Brigadier Zia ul Haq, who would later become President of Pakistan, elite troops from Pakistan helped the Jordanians defeat the Palestinians who were attempting to overthrow the King of Jordan and his Hashemite Government. Thousands of Arafat’s Palestinians were killed and thousands more kicked out of Jordan to Tunisia and Lebanon. Black September as the slaughter of Palestinians was called was similarly ignored by mainstream media as is the Iran-Pakistan, Iran-Afghanistan and indeed the Pakistan-Afghanistan conflicts are too ignored.

The border disputes between Afghanistan and Pakistan resulted in the forced deportation of thousands of Afghans from Pakistan in Pakistan’s desire to pressure the Taliban to thwart cross border terrorism and to ethnically cleanse the Pashtuns, viewed as a military threat back to Afghanistan. Have you read about this on mainstream media? Of course not.

It is almost impossible to define the number of attacks made by either side’s proxies nor the numbers killed as the overwhelming majority of incursions and incidents remain unreported. We are reliant on self-monitoring, validating and researching sources not easily available in order to give some kind of accurate calculation of deaths and injuries. It seems absurd that these forgotten wars remain unreported given the global implications and threats, and the Iranian and Pakistani population and support bases within the UK is it mainstream media inertia, incompetence and bias? Who can tell but let’s try to understand what the latest developments have been and the repercussions that may follow.

The Zainebiyoun Brigade have very recently been designated a terrorist organisation by Pakistan.  Funded and armed by Iran they have been responsible for terrorist atrocities within Pakistan including the assassinations of Imams in mosques and random civilian atrocities within Islamabad and the Balochistan region, their stronghold. They also act as the recruitment arm of Iran indoctrinating young Pakistanis to assist Basher Assad of Syria in his war against the Syrian opposition which has to date claimed the lives of over half a million people of which over 60 percent are civilians. Why no university protests? Let’s leave that for another time.

The latest decision by Pakistan has been forced upon them given the recent activity of the Zainebiyoun organization which culminated in the IRGC attacking Pakistani military outposts within Pakistan earlier this year to which Pakistan responded by military retaliation. The two broke off diplomatic relations since restored but with huge distrust.

Pakistan too fund terrorist organizations to undertake a similar role against Iran. The Sunni Baluch otherwise known as Jaish al-Adl, or Army of Justice are Pakistan’s proxies carrying out in Iran what Iranian proxies do within Pakistan.

It is not only Pakistan that has a problem with Iran’s proxies. Afghanistan too has had enormous problems with the Fatemiyoun-Afghans recruited by Iran to assist Syria and sow internal seeds of discontent within Afghanistan. It is estimated that thousands of civilians within Afghanistan have fallen victim to these Iranian backed terrorists.  Again, accounting accurately for conflict deaths is impossible given the total media blackout.

I’d wager that most reading this article were blissfully unaware of these two terrorist groups, who funded them and for what purpose. And guess what? The mainstream media would have never informed you. It is obviously apparent that as long as global media attention is disproportionately focused with the saturation coverage of the Palestinians, the victims of Iranian terrorism in Pakistan and Afghanistan and of Pakistani funded terrorism in Iran and Afghanistan will continue to remain behind the radar. Daily atrocities committed by the Taliban in Afghanistan have also slipped by global media. And the poorest and the most vulnerable will continue to suffer. Words are simply inadequate. Where are the voices in the United Nations, otherwise known as – The Theatre of The Absurd!
