According to ABC News, detectives have charged a third man in connection with the fatal shooting of Daniel Hussein in Melbourne’s northern suburb of Thomastown. Police said the 20-year-old was arrested at Melbourne International Airport shortly before 4am on Friday as he tried to board a flight out of Australia.
The arrest forms part of the continuing investigation into the September 10 shooting at HR Uren Reserve. Mr Hussein, 22, was killed in front of friends at the reserve, police said. Video from the night captured loved ones crying and screaming while paramedics attempted to revive him, but he died at the scene.
Three men are now facing murder charges over Mr Hussein’s death. Homicide detectives had previously charged brothers Marcus Jajou, 19, and Lucas Jajou, 20, both of Donnybrook, with murder.
Mr Hussein was a plumber who had been engaged to be married and had recently bought a house, relatives said shortly after the shooting. His brother said at the scene that Mr Hussein had “his whole life ahead of him”.
His uncle, Abdallah Hussein, wrote on social media in the days after the death that he could not believe his nephew was gone and could not understand that he would never again see his smile, hear his voice or watch him walk through the door. Police said the investigation into Mr Hussein’s death remains ongoing.
