Arabic version: أداء توماس برادلي اليمين حاكماً لولاية كوينزلاند
According to ABC News, Justice Thomas Bradley has been sworn in as Queensland’s 28th governor at a ceremony in the state’s parliament, replacing Dr Jeanette Young. In his first address as governor, Bradley said he and his partner, Dr Matthew Yoong, looked forward to engaging with people across Queensland.
Bradley said they aimed to spend as much time outside Brisbane as in it, seeking to harness “the wisdom, the skill and the goodwill” in every community. He linked that goal to the Olympic motto: “faster, higher and stronger, together.”
Premier David Crisafulli described the appointment as a “significant moment” for Queensland. He said Bradley’s legal experience had provided strong preparation for the office, noting that he had encountered people at difficult moments in their lives, listened to them and weighed decisions of profound consequence. Bradley served on the Supreme Court from 2018 before moving to the Court of Appeal in 2025.
Outside the courts, Bradley has been chair of the Brisbane Festival Giving Committee, an ambassador for the Pinnacle Foundation and a member of the Gallery of Modern Art Foundation Committee. Opposition Leader Steven Miles said Queensland was stronger when people in public roles reflected the community.
Dr Young, Queensland’s 27th governor, left the office with what she called a profound sense of gratitude and pride. She had previously been the state’s chief health officer during the COVID-19 pandemic. During her governorship, she travelled to all 77 local government areas, visited every public hospital, granted royal assent to 168 pieces of legislation, attended 257 consecutive council meetings and welcomed more than 114 diplomatic representatives. Government House also received more than 100,000 visitors during her term.
