A man remains in critical condition with serious head injuries after a violent altercation in Ngukurr, a remote Aboriginal community in the Northern Territory. According to ABC News, police have charged three individuals in connection with the incident that occurred on April 11.

The victim, a 25-year-old man, was allegedly assaulted during the conflict, which involved weapons. Police reports indicate that a 15-year-old male threw two edged weapons at the victim, which narrowly missed. Subsequently, a 20-year-old male used a slingshot to launch projectiles, one of which caused a laceration to the victim’s head. After falling, the victim was allegedly struck in the head with a blunt weapon by a 16-year-old male.

Initially treated at a local clinic, the victim’s condition deteriorated, leading to his transfer to Royal Darwin Hospital on April 14. Authorities confirmed he remains in critical condition with serious head injuries.

Following the incident, investigators from the Katherine criminal investigation branch arrested the three suspects on April 16. Each individual faces multiple charges, including intention to cause harm, recklessly endanger life (aggravated), unlawfully cause serious harm, and going armed in public. They remain in custody, with court appearances scheduled for early May and June.

Police believe the violent altercation is linked to a long-standing conflict between family groups in the area, and they are working with traditional owners and community stakeholders to address the underlying issues.
