Tiger Woods announced he is stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health after being arrested for driving under the influence following a car crash in Florida. The 50-year-old golfer was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test after his vehicle clipped a truck and rolled over.
According to BBC News, a police report revealed that Woods had two hydrocodone pills, an opioid used for severe pain, in his pocket at the time of the incident. Officers observed him acting lethargic and sweating profusely, with extremely dilated pupils.
Woods submitted a written plea of not guilty through his lawyers shortly after the incident. In a statement shared on social media, he acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and emphasized the need to prioritize his well-being for lasting recovery.
He had previously considered participating in next month’s Masters but has not competed in a major since missing the cut at The Open in July 2024. Woods expressed his commitment to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger and more focused place, both personally and professionally, and requested privacy for himself and his family during this time.
