According to France 24, Ethiopians are fleeing to neighbouring Sudan after renewed conflict in the Tigray region. The broadcaster described a mass exodus driven by fears that a full-scale regional conflict could erupt.

The latest violence was described as the biggest escalation in Tigray since the 2022 Pretoria agreement was signed. The escalation shook the region over the weekend, France 24 reported.

Both the Tigray People’s Liberation Front, or TPLF, and members of the Ethiopian government blamed each other for the renewed conflict. Fighting has been paused since August 1, but concerns over a broader confrontation remain.

France 24 correspondent Tom Canetti reported from Addis Ababa on the developments and the movement of people out of Tigray toward Sudan.
