Arabic version: توم بابلي يخضع لفحص مخدرات أولي بنتيجة إيجابية
According to ABC News, Sydney Swans player Tom Papley returned a preliminary positive drug test after NSW Police stopped him during a roadside licence check on Monday.
The Swans said Papley was issued a court attendance notice for driving with a suspended licence. The suspension was due to an unpaid parking fine.
Papley subsequently completed a random drug test that produced a positive preliminary indication. A second sample was taken for analysis, with results not expected for at least four weeks.
The club said Papley notified it of the matter immediately, and the AFL has also been informed.
The development follows a controversial period for the Swans after five players were stood down from round 24 and the club’s two finals over what the club described as a serious breach of expected behaviour and standards. Those bans were separate from an ongoing police investigation into an alleged sexual assault at Melbourne’s Pullman Hotel; no charges have been laid and there is no suggestion of wrongdoing by the suspended players.
