A skydiving plane crashed in north-eastern France, resulting in the deaths of all 11 individuals onboard. The incident occurred near Nancy at 11 am, as reported by Yves Séguy, the prefect of the Meurthe-et-Moselle region. The victims included the pilot, five students, and five instructors.

According to The Guardian, the students were a group of nurses who had decided to undertake their first skydiving jump together, seeking a respite during a challenging heatwave. The aircraft experienced a malfunction shortly after takeoff from the Nancy-Essey airfield and fell almost vertically, landing close to the aerodrome without causing additional casualties.

The mayor of Nancy, Mathieu Klein, noted that the parachutists were intended to perform tandem jumps, where instructors accompany first-time jumpers. Witnesses, including family members of the participants, observed the plane’s descent and subsequent crash.

Emergency services were deployed swiftly to the site, providing psychological support to the victims’ relatives. Séguy stated that authorities are gathering witness accounts and mobilizing all necessary resources, including medical teams and mental health support. The French interior minister, Laurent Nuñez, was reported to be en route to the crash site to assess the situation.
