Arabic version: إطلاق نار مأساوي في مدرسة يودي بحياة تسعة أشخاص في تركيا
A devastating school shooting in Türkiye has resulted in the deaths of at least nine individuals, including eight children. This incident marks the country’s second school shooting in just two days.
According to ABC News, the shooting occurred on Wednesday, 15 April 2026, in southeastern Türkiye, where a boy, believed to be aged 13 or 14, opened fire on his fellow students and a teacher. In addition to the fatalities, at least 13 other students sustained injuries during the attack.
Kahramanmaras Governor Mukerrem Unluer reported that the shooter arrived at the school equipped with five guns and seven magazines, which are suspected to have belonged to his father, a former police officer. The shooter reportedly entered two classrooms and fired indiscriminately before taking his own life.
Local media indicated that the shooter’s father has been detained for questioning, as authorities believe the boy may have accessed his father’s weapons. The Turkish justice minister confirmed that prosecutors have initiated an immediate investigation into the tragic event.
In a shocking twist, this shooting follows another incident just a day prior, where a former student opened fire at a school in the southeastern province of Sanliurfa, injuring at least 16 people, including students and teachers, before also taking his own life. The frequency of such violent events is alarming, as school shootings have been rare in Türkiye until now.
