According to Allafrica, troops of Operation Hadin Kai arrested a Sudanese man suspected of being a terrorist fighter and collaborator, along with a woman who said she was an illegal immigrant from Ghana, in Borno State.
The military said the intelligence-led operation was conducted by troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion in Lassa, in the Dille General Area of Askira/Uba Local Government Area. Task force spokesperson Mohammed Goni said it took place at about 11.48 am on 19 July as part of efforts to disrupt terrorist activities in Nigeria’s North-east.
The Sudanese suspect was identified as Musa Fashir, 32. Mr Goni, a Nigerian Army captain, said preliminary intelligence linked him to terrorist elements operating in the region, raising concerns about foreign actors supporting the insurgency.
The second suspect was identified as Mary Florence, 36. She claimed to be an illegal immigrant from the Republic of Ghana. The military said it was investigating the circumstances of her presence in the area and the authenticity of her account.
Both suspects are in military custody for profiling and interrogation, the spokesperson said. The process is intended to establish their identities, assess the extent of their activities and determine whether they have links to terrorist groups or transnational criminal networks. Mr Goni urged the public to provide timely, credible information to security agencies.
