According to ABC News, Penrith removalist truck driver Mosa Vaimalu, 42, has been found guilty of dangerous driving occasioning death and two counts of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm over a Bulli Pass crash in 2024.

A jury returned the verdicts on Thursday following a two-week trial at Sydney’s Downing Centre District Court. The charges related to the February 6, 2024 crash near Thirroul, north of Wollongong, in which Vaimalu’s co-worker and cousin, Mikaio Isaako, 43, died at the scene.

Vaimalu was driving southbound in a Hino Pantech truck on Bulli Pass at about 1:46pm, with Mikaio Isaako and his younger brother Robert seated beside him. The court heard he hit the brakes, went through a guardrail on a hairpin bend and landed at the bottom of an embankment before the truck crashed into a BMW waiting to turn left at an intersection.

Robert Isaako, 40, and the 40-year-old Canberra woman driving the BMW were airlifted to hospital with serious injuries. Prosecutors will apply on September 10 to have Vaimalu detained in custody. He remains on bail, and a sentencing date has not been set.
