Arabic version: ترامب يعلن حظر ثلاث مؤسسات إعلامية من البيت الأبيض

According to BBC News, US President Donald Trump said he was “immediately” banning CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House. In a Truth Social post on Friday, he accused the outlets of constantly writing or reporting “fiction or lies” about his administration, without providing examples.

It was unclear what the announced ban would involve or whether employees of the three outlets would be prevented from entering White House grounds. Reporters from Politico and CNN were still on the grounds shortly after the announcement, while a CNN crew was travelling with Vice-President JD Vance to and from an event in Iowa.

Asked about the decision in the Oval Office, Trump said there was “no reason” for the announcement on Friday afternoon and described it as the result of cumulative stories over recent years. He said other outlets might be added, but did not name any. Trump also acknowledged that legal challenges could follow, saying he wanted to point the issue out whether the measure survived or not.

Trump and his administration have repeatedly clashed with the White House press corps since he returned to office in January 2025. That February, the White House took control of the press pool, which had been managed by the White House Correspondents’ Association for more than a century. The administration also restricted Associated Press access to limited spaces over its use of “Gulf of Mexico” rather than “Gulf of America”; the outlet sued and the case remains ongoing. During his first term, Trump banned CNN correspondent Jim Acosta before restoring his credentials after CNN sued.
