Arabic version: ترامب يستشهد بتهديد وراء نقل قاذفات من قاعدة سلاح الجو الملكي في فيرفورد
According to BBC News, US President Donald Trump said the United States moved bombers from RAF Fairford after becoming aware of “some threats” to the base. The Pentagon confirmed on Sunday that the aircraft, thought to be about a dozen B-1s, had returned from the Gloucestershire base to their home stations in America.
Speaking to reporters while departing for Nebraska on Monday, Trump said the US knew of a “threat” that prompted the move. He said: “And rather than tempting the enemy, we’ll capture the enemy and beat the enemy.” Trump added that Washington “actually knows the people that made the threat”, but did not say who they were.
RAF Fairford, in the Cotswolds, has been at the centre of an incident under investigation by counter-terror police. Police were alerted to three “suspicious vehicles” near the airbase on 27 September. Five men arrested on suspicion of terror offences were later released on bail, while a sixth man, described as a UK-Iranian national, was also arrested and released on bail.
A No 10 spokesperson said earlier on Monday that RAF Fairford was safe, referring to Trump’s previous praise for police, defence and security services. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he would not directly link the earlier incident to the bomber withdrawal, noting that assets can move for exercises, redeployments and personnel changes. Vice President JD Vance said the aircraft had been moved out of an “abundance of caution”.
