US President Donald Trump stated that America’s trade deal with the UK ‘can always be changed.’ Speaking to Sky News, Trump emphasized the quality of the trade agreement, claiming it was better than he had to. His comments come in the context of ongoing criticism directed at UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer regarding his stance on the war against Iran.

According to BBC News, Trump expressed that the special relationship between the US and the UK ‘has been better.’ He indicated that Starmer’s refusal to support the US-Israel war in late February had strained relations. Despite this, Trump insisted that the upcoming state visit by King Charles and Queen Camilla would not be overshadowed by political disagreements.

When pressed about the nature of the relationship, Trump remarked that the UK was not there when the US needed assistance. He described the situation as ‘sad’ and reiterated that the trade deal was advantageous for the UK but could be altered if necessary. Trump also criticized Starmer’s immigration and energy policies, labeling them as ‘insane.’

Despite the criticisms, Trump expressed a personal fondness for Starmer, stating, ‘I like Starmer,’ while maintaining that their political differences should not affect the royal visit. He looked forward to spending time with King Charles, whom he has known for a long time.
