Arabic version: ترامب يعلن أن وقف إطلاق النار مع إيران في حالة دعم حياة ضخمة
US President Donald Trump has stated that the month-long ceasefire between the US and Iran is on ‘massive life support.’ Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump described the ceasefire as ‘unbelievably weak.’ According to BBC News, Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf responded by asserting that Iran’s armed forces are prepared to retaliate against any aggression.
In a counter-offer sent to the US, Iran outlined its demands to end the conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Trump dismissed this proposal as ‘totally unacceptable’ and referred to it as a ‘piece of garbage.’ Following Trump’s remarks, Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei claimed that Tehran’s proposals were ‘responsible’ and ‘generous.’ Ghalibaf emphasized that there is ‘no alternative but to accept the rights of the Iranian people as laid out in the 14-point proposal.’
Iran’s proposal includes an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, a halt to the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, and assurances against further attacks on Iran. Additionally, it demands compensation for war damages and affirms Iranian sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz. Trump criticized the proposal and reiterated that Iran would ‘never have a nuclear weapon.’
Despite the ongoing ceasefire, Trump expressed skepticism about Iran’s intentions, calling its leaders ‘very dishonourable people.’ He accused Iran of reneging on an agreement regarding enriched uranium removal. In contrast, Iranian sources have denied any commitment to removing enriched nuclear material from their proposal. As the situation evolves, oil prices have surged due to Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for global oil shipments.
