According to The Guardian, Donald Trump used his address to the United Nations General Assembly to defend US actions involving Iran and Venezuela, while also discussing Ukraine, Cuba, Mexico, Greenland and artificial intelligence.

Trump said the United States had acted to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, asserting that other countries had ignored the issue. He repeated a threat to “annihilate” Iran and “drive them into Hell” if its government did not make a deal. Later, he said members of his team had met the Iranian delegation for three hours and that the meeting had gone very well. He also said he was working closely with the leaders of Russia and Ukraine to end the war, adding: “It’s time to stop the killing.”

On Venezuela, Trump defended the raid that arrested former president Nicolás Maduro and an oil agreement with Delcy Rodríguez, described as Venezuela’s interim president. “To the victor belong the spoils,” Trump said in justifying an arrangement under which a share of Venezuela’s oil wealth would go to the US treasury. He also defended drone strikes on boats in the Caribbean and Pacific, saying the cartels he said the US was fighting should be treated as enemy combatants.

Trump said Mexico must regain control from cartels and stated that his administration sought “a fundamental change” in Cuba, which he called a failed state. He said the US had reached an “unprecedented agreement” with the Kingdom of Denmark over Greenland, giving the US permanent control over security needs there, and said two major military bases would be built on the territory.

Addressing AI, Trump rejected what he called a “globalist scheme” to control the technology. He urged leaders to call it “super intelligence” or “SI,” said it could be bigger than the industrial revolution, and pledged that the US would lead while encouraging its growth.
