Arabic version: ترامب يرفض اقتراح إيران للسلام باعتباره غير مقبول
According to Al Jazeera,
United States President Donald Trump has rejected Iran’s response to his latest peace proposal aimed at ending the war, which has upended the global economy. Iran submitted its counterproposal through a mediator, Pakistan, but Trump criticized it as ‘totally unacceptable’ in a post on his Truth Social platform.
Trump accused Iran of ‘playing games’ and expressed his discontent with their response shortly after reading it. He emphasized that Iran has been engaging in such behavior for 47 years and stated, ‘They will be laughing no longer!’
Negotiations have stalled more than a month after a temporary ceasefire began on April 8. Iran is seeking a permanent end to the conflict, while Trump insists that Iran must first reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for global oil exports. Additionally, Trump has set Iran’s nuclear capabilities as a ‘red line’ in the discussions.
Iran’s counterproposal reportedly includes demands for an end to hostilities across the region, including Lebanon, and emphasizes maritime security in the Gulf. Iranian officials described their response as realistic and positive, urging Washington to engage constructively in negotiations. However, the specifics of Iran’s proposal, particularly regarding its nuclear program, remain contentious.
Trump’s outright rejection of the proposal has raised concerns about the future of diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict. Iranian officials have warned that the rejection undermines regional stability and reiterated their commitment to protecting their national interests. The ongoing naval standoff in the Strait of Hormuz continues to complicate the situation between the two nations.
