Arabic version: ترامب يصدر تحذيرًا صارمًا لإيران بشأن المفاوضات المتعثرة
United States President Donald Trump has reiterated his threats against Iran, as negotiations to end the conflict between the two countries continue to flounder. In a Sunday morning post on his platform Truth Social, Trump warned that time was running short before a fresh wave of US military action might be launched. According to Al Jazeera, Trump stated, “For Iran, the Clock is Ticking, and they better get moving, FAST, or there won’t be anything left of them. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!”
The post was the latest example of Trump using violent rhetoric against Iran as his administration struggles to achieve its goals in the war. Just a day earlier, Trump had posted an AI-generated image of himself atop a military ship, labelled, “It was the calm before the storm.” The conflict began on February 28, when Israel and the US jointly attacked Iran.
Since then, Trump has put forward a range of objectives for the resulting war, including dismantling Iran’s missile arsenal, severing its relations with regional allies, and ending its nuclear enrichment programme. His previous threats have included attacking civilian infrastructure, which legal experts warn could violate the Geneva Convention. In a May interview with Fox News, Trump threatened that Iranian officials would “be blown off the face of the earth” if they attacked US vessels.
Iran has condemned Trump’s rhetoric and rejected his demands as excessive. The Iranian government has accused the US of seeking concessions that it failed to obtain during the war, which they believe will lead to an impasse in negotiations. Iranian military spokesperson Abolfazl Shakarchi warned that further threats from the US would result in severe repercussions.
The increasingly hostile remarks from both sides suggest that the ceasefire could be at imminent risk of shattering. Al Jazeera correspondent Almigdad Alruhaid noted that Tehran is projecting defiance in response to US threats. Foreign policy analyst Adam Clements pointed out that Trump’s hardline rhetoric may also have domestic implications, emphasizing the importance of monitoring whether these statements are echoed by officials and matched by military actions.
