Arabic version: ترامب يستبعد ضربات ضد إيران قبل انتخابات التجديد النصفي

According to Al Jazeera, United States President Donald Trump said he will not order renewed attacks on Iran before the November 3 midterm elections, despite US media reports that the Pentagon has prepared plans for possible action before the vote.

Trump wrote on Truth Social that the United States would not attack Iran before the elections and said Washington was having “productive discussions” with the Iranian side. He did not address reports about preparations for potential military operations or provide further details about the talks.

The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and other outlets reported claims from unnamed officials that Pentagon plans could be used if authorised. Axios, citing US and Israeli officials, reported that US Central Command had been instructed to prepare for imminent major combat operations. The Atlantic published similar reporting.

Al Jazeera said renewed bombing before the election could carry political risks because the war is unpopular in the United States. A Pew Research Center poll released on Thursday found that about 65 percent of Americans disapproved of Trump’s handling of the Iran war. A Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 30 percent of Trump supporters were enthusiastic about voting in the midterms, compared with 48 percent of Democratic voters.

Last week, the US military sent about 7,000 sailors and 2,000 Marines aboard ships heading to the Middle East, including the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group. The deployment brought the number of US troops in the region to 20,000, alongside hundreds of aircraft and at least three carrier strike groups. Trump has also said it would be possible to increase bombing after the elections.
