Arabic version: ترامب يقول إن «ماغا إنك» ستموّل الإعلانات التلفزيونية المقبلة
According to Cnbc, President Donald Trump said he and his political action committee would pay for television advertisements that praised him after taxpayer-funded ads drew criticism. The White House later said MAGA Inc., a super PAC, would pay for future advertisements it describes as public service announcements, rather than ads already broadcast.
Asked Tuesday whether he would reimburse the federal government for earlier ads, Trump said, “We’ll decide.” He called the ads “really good” and said they were promotion for the country. AdImpact tracked roughly $9.7 million in spending through Oct. 5 for three Trump-featured ads paid for with taxpayer funds.
A new advertisement aired Tuesday and was labeled as paid for by the U.S. government. It included clips of Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth discussing the U.S. capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro earlier this year. The ads have run in the weeks before November’s midterm election, which will determine whether Republicans retain majorities in both chambers of Congress.
Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-N.H., said the ads should not have run at taxpayer expense and called for repayment of the money already spent. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., requested investigations by the Government Accountability Office and Office of Special Counsel. Public Citizen also filed complaints seeking to halt the ads and investigate potential violations of federal propaganda restrictions and the Hatch Act.
