According to BBC News, Judd Trump beat Si Jiahui 5-2 at the Shenzhen Open to reach the quarter-finals, where he will face Mark Selby. The result marked Trump’s 113th appearance in the last eight of a ranking event.

The world number two compiled breaks of 80, 71, 53 and 54 against China’s Si. His progress was briefly disrupted in the seventh frame when an LED advertising screen behind the table flashed blue as he potted the yellow into the top-right pocket. Trump cleared the remaining colours to secure victory.

“At this stage there’s always a crucial ball or crucial frame,” Trump said. “So far this season and maybe last season I have not been winning those. But that can change at any point – you have just got to keep putting yourself in those positions.”

Four-time world champion Selby advanced with a 5-3 win over Stephen Maguire, making a highest break of 99. World champion Wu Yize beat Ricky Walden 5-3 and will play Shaun Murphy, who defeated Elliot Slessor 5-1, in a repeat of their Crucible final in May.

Yuan Sijun overcame Zak Surety 5-2 and Jimmy Robertson beat Scott Donaldson 5-0. Chris Wakelin defeated Neil Robertson 5-2, while Michael Holt beat Kyren Wilson by the same score with a break of 126 to reach his first ranking-event quarter-final since the 2024 UK Championship.
