Arabic version: ترامب يحث المملكة المتحدة على تأمين النفط بشكل مستقل وسط أزمة الوقود
US President Donald Trump’s remarks regarding European allies have made headlines, particularly his message to the UK to “go get your own oil.” This statement, shared on his Truth Social platform, comes as nations grapple with rising fuel prices due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. According to BBC News, Trump’s comments signal a potential shift towards a more proactive stance from Europe in response to the war.
The Daily Express echoed Trump’s sentiments, stating that the UK was specifically called out because it did not participate in actions against Iran. The escalating conflict has led to significant increases in oil prices, with Brent crude surpassing $119 a barrel, the highest since the onset of the war, as noted by the Financial Times.
In his communication with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, Trump suggested that the UK should purchase oil from the US, asserting that the country has ample supplies available. The Daily Mail criticized Starmer for lacking a clear strategy in light of the UK’s imminent jet fuel shortages, with the last shipment from the Middle East expected shortly.
While the focus remains on fuel prices and energy sourcing, the Daily Mirror highlighted the potential consequences of Trump’s comments, warning that Europe could face a jet fuel crisis in the near future. Meanwhile, other news outlets reported on the upcoming state visit of the King to the US, describing it as an effort to strengthen ties between the two nations amidst these challenges.
