Arabic version: تونس تستعيد الكهرباء بعد انقطاعات بسبب موجة حر
According to France 24, Tunisia experienced weeks of extended power cuts during a heatwave, prompting the enforcement of rolling blackouts as electricity demand surged.
The consequences were serious. The Order of Young Doctors said between 150 and 200 people died in the heatwave. Businesses also suffered severe losses after goods spoiled during the outages.
Authorities announced that electricity supply was returning to normal as temperatures fell during the week. The improvement followed a period in which prolonged cuts disrupted households and commercial activity.
The crisis underscored Tunisia’s fragile dependence on energy as climate change brings regularly higher temperatures, France 24 reported.
