According to Allafrica, the 3rd Russia-Africa Summit and its Economic and Humanitarian Forum began in Moscow on October 28, with Premier Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri attending for Tunisia. Zenzri arrived on Tuesday evening with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Mohamed Ali Nafti and a delegation of officials from the Prime Ministry and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Zenzri is scheduled to participate in plenary and dialogue sessions during the summit and to hold a series of bilateral meetings. Russian President Vladimir Putin chairs the gathering, whose stated theme is “For Peace, Security and Development.” The report said 48 of Africa’s 54 countries are participating.

Twenty-two leaders and heads of state and government from more than 48 countries are in Moscow for the third summit, compared with 17 at the second Russia-Africa Summit and Economic and Humanitarian Forum in Saint Petersburg in July 2023. Putin is due to co-chair the leaders’ plenary session with Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye, chairperson of the African Union.

The Economic and Humanitarian Forum is being held alongside the summit under the theme “Acting together to build a mutually beneficial cooperation and strengthen the capacities of each African country.” Nearly 4,000 Russian and African enterprises have been invited to more than 40 professional events focused on joint projects. Participants are expected to adopt a joint declaration, a 2027-2029 action plan and a declaration on cooperation in artificial intelligence. Thirty-three documents, including inter-government agreements, memoranda and commercial contracts, are also slated for signing.
