According to ABC News, two men were taken into custody after an incident involving a fake gun at Sydney’s Entertainment Quarter in Moore Park on Monday evening. Police officers swarmed the area after reports that a person had a firearm.

The operation began about 4:45pm. NSW Police said officers found two men, with one allegedly carrying a firearm and wearing a bulletproof vest bearing an American flag. The men, aged 39 and 35, were arrested.

Police seized a replica firearm, vest and badge. Both men were transported to Surry Hills Police Station. Officers confirmed the gun was fake and said there was no ongoing threat to public safety.

A woman dining in the area said she and a friend saw what appeared to be a pistol on a man’s chest. Her friend called police after they were unsure whether the weapon was real. She said officers arrived and took the man to the ground, describing the experience as terrifying. A driver passing the scene said he saw about 15 to 20 police cars race to the location.
