According to ABC News, two men have died after a light plane crashed at Scone in the NSW Upper Hunter. Emergency crews were called to a paddock on Bunnan Road near Scone Memorial Airport at about 1:55pm.

Police said the two occupants of the plane died at the scene. Inquiries are underway to identify the men, while a crime scene has been established and will be examined by specialist officers. A report will be prepared for the coroner.

The crash site is about 150 kilometres north-west of Newcastle. Upper Hunter Mayor Pat Ryan said the local airport general manager contacted him about the incident. He said the aircraft appeared to have crashed adjacent to the airport on private property, adding that police were at the scene and that it sounded like “a very tragic accident”.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau said the aircraft involved was a kit-built craft on the recreational register. Recreational Aviation Australia has also been informed.
