According to Al Jazeera, the United Arab Emirates has accused Iran of striking an Abu Dhabi National Oil Company tanker with a missile while it crossed the Strait of Hormuz. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the vessel was hit in the early hours of Saturday morning. No casualties were reported in the latest incident.

Abu Dhabi described the strike as an act of piracy by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps and called on Tehran to stop the attacks and reopen the strait fully and unconditionally. The ministry said using the waterway for pressure or economic blackmail threatened regional stability and global energy security.

ADNOC confirmed through the state news agency WAM that one of its ships had been targeted by a missile while crossing the strategic waterway. The company did not provide details about damage to the vessel or its precise location at the time of the reported attack.

On Friday, ADNOC said it had been significantly affected by what it called unprovoked attacks on its personnel and assets, while continuing to meet customer requirements in an exceptionally challenging environment. It said 15 of its vessels had been attacked by missiles and drones in the strait since the conflict began, including three during the week. The company said those attacks killed one crew member and injured 20 others, without identifying those responsible.

Gulf and Arab governments condemned the latest reported strike. Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Jassim Mohammed al-Budaiwi called it a dangerous and unacceptable escalation and urged international action to protect maritime navigation. Qatar called for the waterway to reopen without conditions, while Saudi Arabia and Jordan also condemned the tanker’s targeting.
