British troops stationed in Iraq successfully shot down two Iranian drones, confirmed Defence Secretary John Healey. The incident occurred overnight, with some drones managing to strike the coalition base in the Iraqi city of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan region, resulting in injuries to several US personnel.

Brigadier Guy Foden reported that the base, along with another facility in Baghdad, was targeted multiple times on Wednesday night. British forces are currently assisting in the defense of the Erbil base, which is primarily controlled by the US but also accommodates coalition forces, including British troops.

Foden stated that while British forces intercepted two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), several other drones impacted the camp. Fortunately, there were no British casualties reported from the attack. Healey later emphasized that a British team has been present in Iraq since Iran began retaliating against countries in the Middle East, highlighting their role in protecting both themselves and their coalition partners.

According to BBC News, the situation follows a series of US-Israeli strikes on Iran, which have led to increased targeting of US bases in Iraq as part of Iran’s response.
