David Parrish, a 35-year-old ultra-marathon champion from Dumfries, has tragically died while attempting to break the record for the Cape Wrath Trail in the Scottish Highlands. The route spans 234 miles from Fort William to Cape Wrath, and Parrish was found in the remote mountainous area of Kintail on Saturday night.

According to BBC News, Police Scotland confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, and his next of kin have been informed. Parrish was an accomplished ultra-marathon runner, having won the Cape Wrath Trail race in 2023, despite only competing for a few years.

Parrish was running the trail to raise funds for Scottish Mountain Rescue in memory of his close friend, Luke Ireland, who died in 2014 while running in the mountains of Glen Clova in Angus. On his fundraising page, he expressed gratitude for the mountain rescue volunteers who tirelessly searched for Luke and highlighted the importance of their work in responding to emergencies throughout Scotland.

His contributions to the running community were widely acknowledged, with tributes pouring in from various organizations. His employer, Barclays, noted his popularity among colleagues and expressed deep condolences to his family and friends. Scottish Mountain Rescue described him as a generous and inspiring member of the community, emphasizing the lasting legacy of his fundraising efforts.

Parrish had a passion for running, which he described as a way to decompress during his time in the Royal Marines. He began competing in local races and later took on more challenging events, including the Cape Wrath Trail. His dedication to the sport and his charitable efforts have left a significant impact on those who knew him and the causes he supported.
