Arabic version: القائمة السوداء للأمم المتحدة تشمل إسرائيل وروسيا بسبب العنف الجنسي
The United Nations has confirmed it placed Israel on a blacklist of countries suspected of committing sexual violence against civilians. This decision follows a report detailing incidents of conflict-related sexual violence, which has prompted Israel’s foreign ministry to announce plans to sever ties with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. According to Al Jazeera, the UN’s report cites credible information regarding sexual violence perpetrated by Israeli security forces against Palestinian detainees.
The report highlights multiple verified incidents of sexual violence occurring in 2025, including cases of rape and torture against individuals from the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank. It states that attacks included severe violations such as gang rape and physical violence, with many incidents happening during detention and interrogation by Israeli forces.
Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon has publicly criticized the UN’s findings, stating that the organization chose not to investigate the allegations despite an invitation. Pramila Patten, the UN official who authored the report, expressed frustration over the lack of response from Israel regarding accountability measures and access for UN inspectors.
In addition to Israel, the latest UN report also includes Russia, citing documented patterns of sexual violence by Russian military forces in Ukraine. The report indicates that 310 cases of sexual violence were verified, involving various forms of abuse against men, women, and children. The report emphasizes a disturbing trend in global conflict-related sexual violence, with nearly 10,000 cases recorded last year, marking a significant increase from previous years.
