According to Al Jazeera, at least 300 children have been killed in Gaza in roughly 300 days since a so-called ceasefire was announced on October 10, 2025, averaging one child killed a day. UNICEF said hundreds more children have been wounded, many severely, and urged parties to a proposed US-led peace plan to turn pledges into action.

“A ceasefire that leaves an average of one child dead each and every day is failing children,” Edouard Beigbeder, UNICEF regional director for the Middle East and North Africa, said. “Children in Gaza are still waiting for the end to the violence they were promised.”

UNICEF said families are confined to about one-third of the enclave, sheltering among destroyed buildings, rubble and uncleared waste. Children face acute malnutrition, disease, unsafe water and damaged sanitation, while a shortage of incubators has forced some premature newborns to share machines. Health authorities in the territory say Israel’s war on Gaza has killed more than 73,300 Palestinians since October 2023.

The agency said more than 58,000 children have lost one or both parents and more than a million need protection and psychosocial support. UNICEF has previously estimated that about 17,000 children were unaccompanied or separated from their families. Repeated displacement, lost income and limited access to healthcare, education and protection have compounded the crisis.

UNICEF said it delivered more than 600 pallets of school supplies and soap this week before a school year expected to start within two weeks. Beigbeder welcomed announcements pointing towards an end to hostilities and increased aid, saying the measure for Gaza’s children was whether killing stops, aid arrives at scale, hospitals reopen and water flows.
