According to BBC News, the United States completed a final-day comeback to retain the Presidents Cup with a 17-13 victory over the Internationals at Medinah. The hosts trailed by three points going into Sunday but won nine of the 12 singles matches to secure an 11th successive Presidents Cup triumph.

The US team, which included eight of the world’s 11 top-ranked players, had been seeking to avoid only its second defeat since the biennial competition began 32 years ago. Medinah was also the venue for Team Europe’s Ryder Cup comeback win in 2012.

Jacob Bridgeman delivered the decisive point, making a four-foot par putt at the 18th hole to earn a one-up victory against Australia’s Min Woo Lee. Cameron Young, Justin Thomas, Scottie Scheffler, Chris Gotterup, Collin Morikawa, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele and Jackson Koivun also won their singles matches.

US captain Brandt Snedeker, who was part of the team beaten by Europe at Medinah in 2012, said: “I told the guys last night that funny stuff happens here. Medinah’s got a history of funny things happening. All these guys fought for each other, fought for this country, fought for this team.”

International captain Geoff Ogilvy said the contest had been close throughout the day, adding: “The US team came out firing, we knew they would. It was on a knife edge all day.” US President Donald Trump attended as honorary chairman, greeting players and making a speech before the matches began.
